Stanford tabbed a possible fit for Florida transfer Kowacie Reeves

Stanford has been active in the transfer market to bring in more talent at the guard positions

Following the conclusion of what was the seventh year of missing the NCAA Tournament, Stanford elected to give Jeord Haase another go at it come 2023.

The Cardinal head coach has been given what many believe is one final chance to figure things out as the Stanford head coach to end the March Madness drought, and in order to do so and find success Haase is clearly putting a bigger emphasis on using the transfer portal. A tool that has widely been utilized and possibly even abused by most programs around the country, but has been filled with question marks when it comes to Stanford.

After the implementation of the portal there was simply a wide expectation around college sports that due to their rigors academically, Stanford would not be able to reap the rewards of the portal. That theory was proven to be far from the truth this offseason, as new football coach Troy Taylor dove into the portal landing five players (later ended up being four) and showed the country that Stanford can in fact use the portal. Both football and basketball brought in a transfer this past season, and Haase is clearly looking to address the team's guard spot via the portal as Stanford has already reached out to four guards and counting.

One of the guards they reached out to and are viewed as a good fit for, is Florida's Kowacie Reeves. The Georgia native has hit the portal after two years in Gainesville and has heard from programs such as Arkansas, Maryland, Clemson, Cincinnati, Boston College, Georgia, Georgia Tech and of course Stanford among many others. 247Sports' Isaac Trotter identified the Cardinal as a possible fit for Reeves recently and explain that a bigger role could be enticing for Reeves saying:

Even after a seventh-straight season without a NCAA Tournament bid, Stanford is choosing to bring back Jerod Haase. Stanford could offer Reeves a featured role with plenty of shots at his disposal, especially if some of Stanford’s top players choose to leave for greener pastures.ve

This past season Reeves averaged 8.5 points and 2.6 rebounds on the year, while posting shooting clips of 37% from the field and 26% from three. While the numbers are not impressive by any means, Reeves offers good size and high upside due to his scoring prowess as a four-star recruit out of high school. Something 247Sports' scouting report of him touched on saying:

Possesses nice length and athleticism for a wing shooter. Top notch shooter with a quick release. Shoots well off catch and dribble. Has niche shot turning or dribbling right where he doesn't fully square up. Much prefers to go right. Comfortable with the ball but is an upright handler. Needs to develop a more physical side as a rebounder. Comes up with steals defensively. Fits the mold of valued shooters with length and athleticism.

The more help the better for Stanford, who has been plagued by inconsistency at the guard spots for the past few years.
