Stanford lands Princeton running back transfer Ryan Butler

The Princeton transfer quietly had one of the best seasons in college football for a freshman

Troy Taylor and company are not done in the transfer portal as they were able to land a major addition in Princeton running back Ryan Butler.

In his lone season at Princeton, Butler rushed for over 500 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also being named a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which is given to the most impressive first-year in all of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

He marks the fourth transfer that the new Stanford staff has brought in, and the third that has hailed from the Ivy League. Butler immediately stands out as a complimentary back to E.J. Smith who offers a physical style of running.

Adding Butler is major for Stanford's running back room, which was at one point so decimated that the third string quarterback and a reserve safety were the best options in the backfield. He also more than makes up for Stanford missing out on the less experienced Tennessee running back transfer Justin-Williams Thomas who flipped to Cal.

Coming out of high school, Butler held 10 offers from programs such as Navy, Army, Penn, and Harvard among others.
