WATCH: Troy Taylor breaks down what it takes to be Stanford's starting quarterback

Stanford's quarterback battle is one of the biggest mysteries in college football

Stanford will have a lot of new players in marquee roles in 2023 that haven't seen the field much, if it all at the college level.

Aside from replacing almost the entire offensive line, receiver core, and secondary, the Cardinal are also having to find a replacement for the most important position on the field; quarterback. Tanner McKee is off to the NFL, leaving his backups from a year ago Ari Patu and Ashton Daniels battling it out for the starting spot this spring.

However, they aren't the only two quarterbacks that will be contending for the starting gig, as Stanford will be welcoming in four-star Myles Jackson who reclassified into the 2023 class, and Syracuse transfer Justin Lamson. While all of their skill sets vary, one thing that they all have in common is that they are as inexperienced as any quarterback room in the country.

Patu leads the way in the "experience" department with 25 career passing attempts under his belt, while Daniels attempted six passes this past season while also logging 25 rushing attempts due to the running back injury issues. Lamson has yet to attempt a college pass, but did work his way up to being the backup to Mississippi State transfer Garrett Shrader before going down with a season ending injury. Jackson will be a freshman next season during what should be his senior year of high school. All of this to say that new head coach Troy Taylor has a vital few months ahead of him in order to decide who will lead the offense in 2023.

In a recent interview with myself, Taylor broke down what he is looking for in his starting quarterbacks, emphasizing things such as accuracy and anticipation.
