John Bol Ajak Enters Transfer Portal

Syracuse basketball’s reserve forward will finish his career elsewhere.

Syracuse forward John Bol Ajak has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Bol Ajak spent four years at Syracuse, earned his degree and is electing to finish his college basketball career elsewhere.

The 6-10 forward signed with Syracuse as part of the Orange’s 2019 recruiting class. He was a former top 100 prospect who dipped in the rankings to become a three star recruit after dealing with injuries during his high school career. He picked Syracuse over offers from Pittsburgh, VCU, UConn, Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Villanova, Wake Forest and others.

Bol Ajak played sparingly during his Syracuse career. He redshirted during the 2019-20 campaign before seeing his first action in 2020-21. That year, he played in 10 games, averaged five minutes and 0.2 points, 0.4 rebounds and 0.2 blocks per game. He played in 25 games over the next two seasons including 13 with one start this past year. During his career, Bol Ajak averaged 0.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.1 blocks and 0.1 steals per game while shooting 36.4% from the floor and 55.6% from the free throw line.

The move is not a surprise but he becomes the first Syracuse player to enter the portal this offseason. The coaching staff looks significantly different as well, as Jim Boeheim has retired and longtime assistant Adrian Autry has taken over as head coach.
