Syracuse's Season Ends in ACC Tournament Loss to Wake Forest

In this story:
Syracuse basketball's 2022-23 season has come to an end as the Orange fell to Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament just days after beating the Demon Deacons in the JMA Wireless Dome. Daivien Williamson hit a three pointer with less than a second left to break the hearts of the Orange and end the season. With the loss, Syracuse finishes 17-15 on the year. The focus now shifts to the offseason and impending decisions that will impact next season's roster significantly.
Wake used a critical adjustment to limit Syracuse's offensive effectiveness, double teaming Jesse Edwards every time he touched the ball. Even though the Orange led for most of the first half thanks to hot shooting from Benny Williams and Chris Bell, they cooled off in the second and Syracuse could not sustain offense as Joe Girard and Judah Mintz struggled to make shots.
Midway through the second half, Wake used a 19-2 run to turn a four point deficit into an 13 point lead. Syracuse would implement the press and retake the lead with less than a minute to go. But a Cameron Hildreth jumper tied the game and then after Girard missed jumper with seconds left, Williamson drilled a three in transition to secure the win.
Benny Williams led Syracuse with 18 points and 11 rebounds including three made three-pointers. Mintz added 18 points on 7-21 shooting to go along with seven assists. Edwards contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds while Chris Bell had 11 points. Copeland came off the bench to score six points and grab five rebounds.

EXPERIENCE Mike McAllister has been covering Syracuse basketball, football and recruiting for more than a decade. Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available.
