Texas A&M Aggies Outfielder Braden Montgomery Named SEC Player Of The Week

Texas A&M Aggies outfielder Braden Montgomery has picked up so extra hardware in the coming weeks.

Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery isn't just a superhuman in right field, but he also has a super-powered bat at the plate. It's no wonder why the hardware continues to stockpile around his name.

Montgomery was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week for his performance in A&M's three-game sweep of Auburn at Blue Bell Park. The junior was near-touchable over the 27 innings, collecting four home runs while batting .500 (7-of-14) on the weekend.

The All-American sent four balls over Blue Bell Park's right field, including a two-run blast in Friday's win to only enhance his stat line. On top of the dingers, Montgomery finished with a double, two walks, eight runs scored, and seven RBI.

"It feels great to have another number in the win column," Montgomery said following Friday's win. "I was just seeing the ball over the plate and was able to put some really good swings on off-speed pitches today."

On Thursday, the switch-hitter kicked off the scoring with a two-run long shot to Section 12 during the first inning. A day later, he'd send two more balls over the fence, including a solo ball in the eighth for insurance.

Montgomery, who leads all hitters with 47 RBI, made sure to leave fans wanting more entering Saturday's series finale. He sent another two-run blast straight to deep center on a ball that traveled 457 feet. He also doubled in extras to set up the eventual game-winning RBI single from Ted Burton.

Since joining the No. 3 Aggies (25-3, 6-3 SEC), Montgomery has been not just one of the best hitters in the SEC, but overall players in the sport. His 16 home runs are tied for second nationally behind only Georgia’s Charlie Condon (19). His .933 slugging percentage ranks fifth nationally, too.

For the season, Montgomery is batting .381 with 40 hits, 25 of which are for extra-bases. His on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and doubles rank top 10 among players in the SEC entering April.

The Aggies hit the road for the next four games with matchups against Texas State and South Carolina. First pitch from San Marcos is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
