Is Texas A&M Basketball A Lock For March Madness?

The Aggies currently could be pushing for a top-five seed in the NCAA Tournament

Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball might end up being the front-runner to win the Southeastern Conference regular season title should it continue its success on the court.

Does this mean the Aggies are a lock to make the NCAA Tournament next month

According to ESPN's Joe Lunardi's latest NCAA Tournament rankings, the No. 25 Aggies (21-7, 13-2 SEC) are listed as the No. 6-seed in the South Region. A&M is projected to face No. 11 Florida Atlantic, with the winner moving on to the Round of 32 to meet either No. 3-seed Baylor or No. 14-seed UC Irvine.

Should Lunardi's projections become permanent, the Aggies would face a gauntlet of top-ranked programs en route to the Final Four in Houston. No. 2 Alabama is listed as the top seed in the region, with No. 7 Arizona, No. 9 Baylor, No. 13 Miami and No. 16 Xavier rounding out the top five.

Should the Aggies and Musketeers reach the Elite Eight, it would mark a rematch of last season's NIT Championship in New York City. Both A&M and Xavier missed the tournament last spring and dominated the competition before meeting up in Madison Square Garden, with the Musketeers pulling off the 73-72 win.

Winners of six straight, A&M could bolster its seeding with several more victories prior to the end of the regular season. The Aggies will travel to Starkville, Miss., to take on Mississippi State Saturday afternoon. A&M will remain in the Magnolia State to face Ole Miss Tuesday before returning home to Reed Arena for its season finale matchup against SEC-leading Alabama.

Currently, Alabama holds a one-game lead over A&M in the SEC standings following its overtime road win over South Carolina on Wednesday.
