Aggies Headline Field for 2023 ESPN Invitational

In this story:
The Texas A&M Aggies will have some stout, non-conference competition next season. But while looming meetings with the Houston Cougars and Memphis Tigers might take the cake, the Aggies will be in for a handful of tests as well when they play in the 2023 ESPN Invitational in Orlando.
The eight-team field for the event has reportedly been finalized, with the Florida Atlantic Owls being the final team added to the fold, per reports from college basketball insider Jon Rothstein on Wednesday.
Here are the eight teams competing at the event:
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Florida Atlantic Owls
- Boise State Broncos
- Iowa State Cyclones
- Virginia Tech Hokies
- Butler Bulldogs
- VCU Rams
Of course for Aggie fans, all eyes go to a potential rematch with Penn State after the two teams met in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in March. It was a game Texas A&M would certainly like to forget, as PSU cruised to a 76-59 win, quickly ended the Aggies' successful season after making their first tournament since 2018.
But should Texas A&M and Penn State draw the matchup next season, the Aggies would have their chance at revenge against a Nittany Lions team that lost head coach Micah Shrewsberry and many of its top players from a season ago.
Regardless of who the Aggies end up playing, the non-conference tournament will give them an early-season shot to prove that they're ready to meet similar expectations after a 25-10 finish in 2022.
