Tony Grimes, Rueben Owens Aggies' 'Newcomers to Watch' Says ESPN

With the Aggies looking to shake off a 5-7 season, Tony Grimes and Rueben Owens will play a big role in that task.

There is no denying that the 2022 season for the Texas A&M Aggies was a disappointing one, as they finished 5-7 despite high preseason expectations.

Whether those expectations were warranted is a conversation for another day, but they were there and the Aggies fell noticeably short. Now, though, they look to the 2023 season and hope to bounce back.

Several storylines are worth watching this spring, with ESPN pointing out the hire of Bobby Petrino to run the offense and the overall need for the Aggies to regroup this offseason in order to put last season behind them.

Not only did they point out potentially key spring storylines, but ESPN also provided two names of newcomers to watch for the Aggies - transfer cornerback Tony Grimes from North Carolina and freshman running back Rueben Owens.

Texas A&M added what should be immediate help at cornerback in the portal with the addition of North Carolina's Tony Grimes, a former five-star recruit who played the past three seasons for the Tar Heels. And on offense, freshman running back Rueben Owens has the versatility and speed to fit perfectly into Petrino's offense. Owens signed with Texas A&M after originally committing to Louisville.

Adding Grimes to a defense that held opponents to 21.2 points per game on just 365 yards of total offense, including an impressive 156.2 yards per game through the air, will only make the defense that much better.

As for Owens, filling the shoes of Devon Achane will be far from easy, but if he shows the talent that he did in high school than he will add a new wrinkle to an Aggies offense that sorely needs one.

For better or worse, the Aggies will be one of college football's most intriguing teams this season. The talent is there, now all they have to do is win some games.
