TCU Baseball: Frogs Drop Game 1 Against Texas Tech 7-1

TCU dropped the first game of the series against Texas Tech Friday night by a score of 7-1. While this may not surprise you with the way the offense has looked the past couple of weeks, this was considered by some to be the weekend where TCU turns the corner and plays better baseball. While that is still entirely possible, the Frogs made it much harder on themselves by losing last night's game.
Payton Tolle's final line for tonight: 5 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, with 11 Ks. While it wasn't his best stuff based on what we've seen the past 3 weeks, it was still more than enough to give TCU a chance against an extremely talented Texas Tech offense. While the Texas Tech lineup did have 15 strikeouts as a team, they got hits when it mattered.

The TCU bullpen allowed 4 ER after Tolle left the game. While the return of Hunter Hodges excited the KillerFrogs staff, his appearance was short-lived only pitching 0.2 innings allowing 0 runs. Andrew Mosiello and Zack Morris both allowed 2 runs a piece. Morris pitched 2.1 innings, while Mosiello only threw 0.2 innings and was relieved for after giving up the 2 runs.
The Tech offensive scoring was led by Owen Washburn and TJ Pompey, Washburn with 2 RBIs and Pompey with 3 RBIs including a homerun late in the game to give the Raiders some needed insurance. Cade McGee also went 3 for 5 with a double.
As for the Frogs hitting, Karson Bowen was the only bright spot in Friday night's loss going 1 for 3 with a home run to centerfield. Sam Myers and Kurtis Byrne both had leadoff doubles in separate innings which both unfortunately led to nothing. TCU is back in action tomorrow as they look to even the series at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday with Louis Rodriguez getting the start.
