Men's Basketball: TCU Transfer Portal Update - Who's In/Who's Out

The TCU men's basketball roster has seen a lot of change over the past couple months. With the departure of Mike Miles and others, an incoming group of players highlighted by Jameer Nelson Jr. will help fill those departures.

TCU has made a splash in the transfer portal so far, gaining new additions to cover holes they needed in the roster. Here are the key players who left, came back, and are still here.

Key Losses

• Mike Miles - The leading scorer of the Frogs declared for the NBA draft following his junior season, where he averaged 17.9 points per game on 49.7% shooting from the field. TCU will greatly miss him as an offensive catalyst for the team and his ability to deliver every given night. He is currently projected as a second-round pick.
• Eddie Lampkin - The redshirt sophomore started 19 games at center for TCU last season, averaging 6.3 points per game and 5.9 rebounds. He was known as the heartbeat of the team for his tenure with the Frogs before controversially entering the transfer portal right before the Big 12 Tournament. He committed to the University of Colorado, leaving the Frogs thinner at big man.
• Shahada Wells - The guard was a valuable piece to the Frogs' success last season, averaging 5.9 points on the year. He decided to join new coach Will Wade's team at McNeese State next year after entering the portal.
• Souleymane Doumbia - The center for the Frogs played sparingly over his two years with the Frogs, only averaging 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds last season. He entered the portal and committed to play at Sam Houston State next year.
• PJ Haggerty - Originally a four-star recruit via 247Sports from Crosby, Texas, Haggerty only appeared in six games averaging 2.8 points his freshman season before deciding to redshirt. The combo guard entered the transfer portal following the season and has committed to play at Tulsa next year.
• Rondel Walker - Walker transferred to the Frogs before last season after two seasons at Oklahoma State. The 6 foot 5 guard had a disappointing 2023 season averaging just 1.9 points on 27.4% shooting. He entered the transfer portal on May 12 following TCU's additions of guards from the portal and has yet to commit to a school.

Key Additions

• Jace Posey - At 6 feet 4 inches and 175 pounds, the incoming freshman looks to be a quality wing piece for the Frogs. Attending Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston, Posey was the number 88 ranked prospect on 247Sports and sixth best player in Texas. He is the son of two-time NBA champion James Posey and is known for his freakish athleticism.

• Isaiah Manning - Manning is a 6 foot 7, 200-pound power forward from Mansfield Legacy in Mansfield, Texas. The incoming freshman was ranked 209 in his class and 21 in Texas, holding offers from other schools like Alabama and Kansas State. The hometown kid plays fast and can stretch the floor to the three-point line.

• Jameer Nelson Jr. - The 6 foot 1, 200-pound guard averaged 20.6 points per game last season for the Delaware Blue Hens, which ranked 17th in the nation. Nelson Jr. is the eighth-ranked player from the transfer portal on 247Sports and committed to TCU after four seasons of experience at both George Washington and Delaware. The son of former NBA player Jameer Nelson can score from all levels with his extreme athleticism and skilled ball handling. Look for Nelson Jr. to have a major impact this season, taking a large chunk of the scoring left by Miles' departure. 

• Essam Mostafa - At 6 foot 9 inches and 250 pounds, Mostafa transferred to TCU after playing three seasons at Coastal Carolina. Starting at center for the Chanticleers last season, he averaged 12.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Mostafa fills a big need for the Horned Frogs at big man, who can both rebound the ball and offer interior scoring.

• Trey Tennyson - The combo guard transferred to TCU after averaging 15.7 points for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi last season. At 6 foot 4 and 180 pounds, Tennyson shot 40.2% from three-point range on 7.1 attempts per game, immediately making the Frogs a better shooting team, something they desperately needed.

• Avery Anderson - The 6 foot 3, 160-pound guard comes to the Frogs after playing four seasons at Oklahoma State. Last season he averaged 11.1 points and 3.4 assists per game for the Cowboys. He is originally from Justin, Texas, and will return home to TCU, offering another scorer at all levels who is comfortable with the ball in his hands.

Entered NBA Draft While Retaining Eligibility

• Emanuel Miller - Miller has been a starter for the Frogs the past two seasons at power forward, most recently averaging 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds last season. Miller has one year of college eligibility left but decided to test the waters in the NBA draft after the season ended. The two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention has until June 1 to return back to college, where he would be one of TCU's most valuable returners. He is currently projected to most likely be undrafted.
• Damion Baugh - Baugh is the Frogs best playmaker, averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 assists per game last season. Like Miller, he declared for the NBA draft with one year of eligibility left. Baugh was awarded All-Big 12 second team last year but will still likely be undrafted this year. Baugh has until June 1 to make his decision on whether to come back or not.

The team may look different come time for the season, and TCU is still expected to be active in the portal, but Dixon and staff have constructed a solid roster that has a chance to be really good in the Big 12.
