TCU Football at Oklahoma: Halftime Report

The Sooners lead 42-16 behind an incredible performance by Dillon Gabriel

The TCU Horned Frogs and the Oklahoma Sooners are meeting in Norman this afternoon for the regular season finale.  TCU started out matching the Sooners' touchdowns in the first quarter. The second quarter was all Sooners. Oklahoma leads 42-16 at the half.

First Half Highlights - Oklahoma vs. TCU:

TCU got the opening kick. After converting one 3rd down, the Frogs stalled with a 4th and 12 from the 40. Jordy Sandy punted for the first time since the Texas game.

Dillon Gabriel got the start for the Sooners. There was speculation he may not start after suffering an upper-body injury last week. Gabriel started with a 50-yard pass to Nic Anderson. TCU's Josh Newton was called for pass interference on the next play, setting up a 1st and goal. Gabriel ran it in from eight yards out. The scoring drive was two plays, 73 yards, and 38 seconds. Score: TCU 0, OU 7 - 11:33 1st

Sandy punted from his own 45. The punt was muffed, and the Frogs recovered at the 19-yard line. Four plays later, Josh Hoover ran it in from three yards out. Griffin Kell missed the PAT. The scoring drive was four plays, 19 yards, and 1:11. Score: TCU 6, OU 7 - 8:53 1st

The Sooners had no trouble reaching the endzone on their next drive. It was capped off by a 59-yard touchdown pass from Gabriel to Jayden Gibson. The scoring drive was four plays, 75 yards, and 1:11. Score: TCU 6, OU 14 - 7:42 1st.

TCU came right back with an impressive drive of their own. Hoover found JoJo Earle for a 48-yard reception to the OU 15-yard line. Two plays later, Earle would get a 6-yard touchdown reception from Hoover. The scoring drive was eight plays, 75 yards, and 3:12.. Score: TCU 13, OU 14 - 4:30 1st. 

The Sooners went three-and-out on their next drive and punted for the first time. TCU converted one first down before punting for the third time of the day. 

Oklahoma would start the second quarter with a 53-yard catch from Gabriel to Gibson on the second play of the quarter. Gibson had a 20-yard reception to end the first quarter to set up the touchdown pass. The scoring drive was seven plays, 80 yards, and 1:55. Score: TCU 13, OU 21 - 14:33 2nd.

Frogs went three-and-out, again, on their next possession. Gabriel continued his impressive play of the day as the Sooners went ten plays and 72 yards in 2:51. Gabriel threw a 12-yard catch to Gavin Sawchuck for the fourth touchdown of the day. Score: TCU 13, OU 28 - 10:13 2nd.

On a 4th and 8 from the TCU 30, Frogs faked a punt. Trent Battle rushed for three yards, giving the Sooners excellent field position. Seven plays later, Sawchuk would run it in from seven yards out. The scoring drive was 7 plays, 33 yards, and 33 yards. Score: TCU 13, OU 35 - 6;15 2nd. 

Sooners were full throttle in the 2nd quarter and just kept scoring. Gabriel would lead his team on another drive down the field, including a 41-yard run by Sawchuk and a 15-yard catch by Drake Stoops. Tawee Walker would run the ball in from the 9-yard line for the touchdown. The scoring drive was six plays, 78 yards, and 2:11.  Score: TCU 13, OU 42 - 3:18 2nd. 

TCU would get one more possession in the half and would drive down the field. Frogs would have 3rd and goal from the four and could not convert the touchdown. Kell came out to kick the field goal as time expired. The scoring drive was 15 plays, 80 yards, and 3:17. Score: TCU 16, OU 42 - Halftime.

Key Players of the First Half:

Nic Anderson - Caught a 50-yard pass on the first play for the Sooners, setting up the first touchdown. Caught four passes for 97 yards. 

Emani Bailey - Ran the ball 13 times for 50 yards and caught three passes for 12 yards. 

JoJo Earle - Had two catches for 54 yards and one touchdown. 

Dillon Gabriel - Threw for 14-23 for 278 yards and two touchdowns. Also ran the ball three times for six yards and a touchdown. 

Jayden Gibson - His 59-yard catch gave the Sooners their second touchdown of the 1st quarter. Two catches for 79 yards and one touchdown. 

Jamoi Hodge - The Frogs did not have much defense in the half. However, Hodge did have seven tackles, three of those solo tackles. 

Josh Hoover - Threw 18-36 for 155 yards and one touchdown. Also had a 3-yard rushing touchdown. 

J.P Richardson - Had two pivotal catches for 22 yards. 

Gavin Sawchuk - Ran the ball eight times for 71 yards and two touchdowns. 

Drake Stoops - Caught five receptions for 37 yards. Many of those catches were mid-drive for long yards that set up touchdowns. 

Jared Wiley - Had a 10-yard reception on the Frogs' second drive to set up a 1st and goal from the 3-yard line and the Frogs' first score. Caught five balls for 27 yards.
