Big 12 Football Game of the Week: Kansas State at Texas Tech

A matchup between the Wildcats and Red Raiders is the Big 12 game of the week.

Honestly, the best game on the Big 12's slate probably happened on Thursday night. On paper, you would not think a weeknight game between Houston and West Virginia would be the best option, but it was. The Cougars bested the Mountaineers on a last-second, tip-drill Hail Mary, 41-39.

That game is in the past, so a new matchup must be chosen and on a week where the slate is weak, it was difficult to choose. Kansas at Oklahoma State is intriguing because Oklahoma State is maybe (probably not) good, but star Jayhawks signal-caller Jalon Daniels will not play once again due to back tightness. TCU versus BYU has some interesting storylines, but quite frankly, I do not care to write about the Horned Frogs right now.

That said, I decided to choose Kansas State at Texas Tech. Both of these teams were popular picks to contend for a Big 12 title this season, and both of them have disappointed in that aspect so far.

Behren Morton

Behren Morton is now the quarterback for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech versus Kansas State is our Big 12 Game of the Week.

The Red Raiders opened the season with back-to-back non-conference losses; one against Wyoming and one against the current No. 8 Oregon Ducks. They responded with a blowout win over Tarleton State and a loss to West Virginia, but have since beat Houston and Baylor handedly.

Kansas State lost to a Missouri team that is better than many believed at the time, so was inclined to cut it some slack before the ultra-confusing loss to Oklahoma State.

So, who will win? Vegas has Texas Tech as a 1.5-point favorite, and if I had to choose, I would take the Red Raiders with the points. I always thought Behren Morton was the best choice for the starting job, and now that he has it, the offense is scoring points. Morton threw three touchdown passes against Baylor last week. He has a cast of weapons that make his life easier, and I do not think Kansas State's defense is all that great. Wildcat quarterback Will Howard is now a veteran Big 12 quarterback, but injuries have not done him any favors as he threw three interceptions in last week's loss.

Lubbock is arguably the toughest place to play in the Big 12, and Kansas State is not playing its best ball. I predict a close game with a lot of points scored, but at the end, I think Tech is best suited as it stands now to win the game.
