TCU didn't expect to come away with their anticipated Week 1 game against Colorado with a loss. As a 20.5-point favorite, the Horned Frogs were stunned 45-42. Fortunately for TCU, they get a get-right game this coming week against FCS foe Nicholls. While a point spread won't be available until hours before kickoff, TCU expects to be more than a five-touchdown favorite.

The Horned Frogs have not lost to an FCS opponent since 2001, and have just two FCS losses in program history (North Texas, 1986).

Nicholls at TCU kicks off Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7:00 p.m. CT from Amon G. Carter Stadium. Watch the game on ESPN+ or listen on the radio at 88.7 FM KTCU.

Sizing Up The Colonels

There are varying types of FCS foes. On one hand, you have teams like South Dakota State, who can match up with almost any FBS team and play a competitive game. On the other, you have teams who struggle to collect wins at the Division-I AA level and travel to Fort Worth to collect a much-needed program paycheck. Nicholls falls in the latter.

They mustered just 18.5 points per game a season ago, outside the top 100 nationally among FCS teams. In two games against FBS opponents, they were outscored 83-14 (South Alabama, ULM).

The Colonels did upend Kansas in 2018 and Western Michigan in 2013 among their five FBS upsets. However, this edition of Nicholls is a far cry from their 9-4 campaign in 2018. They turn over a new QB, new leading rusher, and top two receivers. Against a rebuilding Sacramento State at home, Nicholls allowed 38 points and began the season 0-1.

Nicholls certainly comes away from the game with a $575,000 paycheck and the gratitude of Horned Frog fans for the get-right scenario TCU needs. Anything other than a comfortable win dives into deep concern for TCU.
