TCU's Washington, Holmes, Gray Star at the Jarvis Scott Open

TCU’s track and field teams returned to action Feb. 10-11, competing in the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas. Multiple Horned Frogs competed and advanced in their respective events during the two day meet.
Day One
McNeese State transfer Dreunna Washington highlighted TCU’s jumpers, recording a season-best 5.88m on her third long jump attempt, which was good enough for her first victory of the season. Patrick Sylla and Jaren Holmes added to the Horned Frogs’ strong day of long-jumping, finishing second and third in the men’s long jump with scores of 7.30m and 7.24m respectively.
Iyana Gray ran in the 60m finals and finished with a personal-best time of 7.32, which is the third fastest time recorded in school history and tied for 39th on the all-time indoor record list. Rachel Hall also ran this event, placing seventh with a time of 7.5.
Jasmin Muhammad-Graham and Ryan Martin both competed in the 800m for TCU. Muhammad-Graham finished second in the women’s event with a time of 2:13.11 while Martin finished eighth in the men’s event with a personal-best time 1:51.53. Peyton McQuillan ran the 5000m and second with her time of 17:52.11. Simbarashe Maketa ran the men’s 400m and finished sixth with his score of 47.15. Jill Johnson placed eighth in the 60m hurdle event with a season-best 8.73.
Day Two
Holmes’ built off his day one success and scored a 16.28m in the men’s triple-jump finals which was good enough to win the event. He was not the only Frog to compete in the triple-jump finals as four others joined him. Theophilus Mudzengerere finished second (15.67m), Sylla finished fourth (15.23m), Damilare Olukosi finished fifth (15.19m) and Gavin Champ finished eighth (14.74m).
Quinn Calhoun competed in the women’s pole vault and finished in first place with a personal record vault of 4.11m.
Mariana Martinez finished first in the women’s 3000m with a time of 10:24.91. Gray ran in the women’s 200m, finishing second with a 23.54 time. Three Horned Frogs ran in the men’s 200m, Donnie James won first place with a season-best 21.35. Greg Scholars finished with a 21.61 which was good enough for third and Emmanuel Ekong ran a 21.94.
In the women’s mile, London Culbreath finished in third-place (5:02.21), Martinez finished fifth (5:05.06) and McQuillan finished sixth (5:05.72)
Lastly, the women’s 4x400 team consisting of Samarra Monrroy, Tatianna Martinez, Dreunna Washington and Lailah White finished in third-place with a time of 3:41.12.
TCU will return to Lubbock on Feb. 24-25 for the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
