Renovations Plans Released For Lindsey Nelson Stadium

Months ago, it came to light that the Tennessee athletics program plans to provide upgrades to Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Renderings of the plans for the stadium have been released online.

The ballpark has needed an upgrade for quite some time. It has seen few renovations since its opening in 1993. It has made three from 2006 to 2019, including a transition from a grass field to a turf one, added premium seating, and adjustments to the outfield walls. However, with the program's growing success under six-year manager Tony Vitello, a demand for upgrades to the aging park was needed. This makes sense for the Vols to keep up with its SEC counterparts, who make up arguably the best conference in college baseball.

The project is estimated to be around $56 million and includes many new features. Some of the new features will be an upgrade in capacity (Lindsey Nelson Stadium is currently at 4,387), an addition of suites above the grandstand, and more porches beyond the left field wall. The plan also includes providing athletes with new facilities and lounging areas. The real cream of the crop for this renovation, though, is the detail that is going into the luxury seating for fans. The addition of new suites and more porches is also going to be combined with new loge boxes. These are essentially barter seating high along the third baseline above the standard seats for fans. It is almost like club seats that are opened up looking into the park. Traditional club seating will also be added. It will be placed high above the view behind home plate and have a big enclosed area that includes private restrooms and special catered food and beverage options for the fans in attendance. Although this project will be completed years from now, donations and engineering designs are said to be well underway.
