In this story:

In 2020, the name Byron Young was not on the radar of any NFL front offices and likely not many SEC coaches. After dominating at Georgia Military College, Young signed with the University of Tennessee on National Signing Day in 2020. Just over two years later, the Georgetown, South Carolina native is positioned to be in the NFL and continue his football career.

Young joined Jason McCourty and the Good Morning Football crew on Wednesday morning to discuss various topics. First, he was asked about the combine and his experience in Indianapolis. He described the process of working out and talking to NFL teams as an amazing experience. "Going there and just living out my dreams. I was really blessed and happy to be there."

Young sang the quarterback's praises when asked about former teammate Hendon Hooker. "We transferred in at the same time; definitely a leader I'd love to have on my team." The star Vols pass rusher described Hooker as "selfless," citing the way Hooker was still the same guy after his ACL injury.

Byron was asked to give his final pitch to NFL front offices at the show's end. "My type of motor, I don't stop going, I always am going to keep fighting… I'm not going to quit. They're going to get everything out of me. I'm a team guy." For Young, the numbers do plenty of talking of their own. In 2 seasons with the Vols, Young recorded 83 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 23.5 tackles for loss. With these numbers, Young garnered an SEC All-First Team nod and an invite to the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Mock drafts have Young anywhere from 2nd to 4th round. After an elite combine performance that included the third-highest 40-yard dash by a 250+ pound player since 2003, Young's stock could and likely should continue to rise. It's NFL Draft season, and Vols Nation is right in the thick of it.
