Former Tennessee DT Da'Jon Terry Lands In Big-12

Former Tennessee Volunteers defensive tackle Da'Jon Terry has found a new landing spot in the Big-12 with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Tennessee Volunteers lost defensive tackle Da'Jon Terry to the transfer portal over the week. Terry spent the past week searching for his new college home, the third of his career. Terry began his career with the Kansas Jayhawks before transferring to Tennessee for the past two seasons. He carved out a rotational role with the Vols but decided to enter the portal.

The Meridian, Mississippi, native chose the Oklahoma Sooners after visiting them this week. Terry stands 6-4 and 320 pounds with two seasons of SEC experience; the Sooners need strong front-seven players as they continue to retool their defense under second-year head coach Brett Venables. Venables was a defensive coordinator at Clemson before taking the Oklahoma job and has expressed that he wants to restore a previously dormant Oklahoma defense. Volunteer Country evaluated his game when he initially transferred to Tennessee and came away quite impressed.

"Terry only played one year of high school ball at Meridian (Miss.), which is one reason that he did not receive much exposure at that stage. Kansas came in and landed him at the end of the early signing period, or other teams might have started to push in the later months. Terry played in two games as a freshman at Kansas, and he started to flourish in his redshirt freshman season. He totaled 14 tackles, including two sacks over eight games last fall. Terry is not just a big body in the middle of the defense. This is a kid with an immense amount of untapped potential who has really only played two full seasons of football in his life. He will plug into the middle of Tennessee's defense, and I feel confident that he will make a push to start, as Rodney Garner will look to revamp that front group, which struggled mightily at times in the spring. Measuring in at 6'4", 320lbs, Terry is already a space-eater, but when disengaged from a blocker, he moves like he is 265lbs. He pursues well in all phases of the game, and he has developed a nice move set for this stage of his career."
