UGA Offers George MacIntyre, What It Means For The Vols

Georgia offered 2025 quarterback George MacIntyre on Tuesday. The Tennessee Volunteers have been actively recruiting him, and this changes things for both sides.

Georgia can't recruit quarterbacks and receivers... is what people want you to think. While the Bulldogs haven't had much luck signing top prospects at each position, they haven't had any trouble developing what they get.

Head coach Kirby Smart has been counter-recruited for years because of these notions. He has now established credibility as a two-time national champion, allowing him to rebuttal others. George Pickens came to Georgia as a highly-rated four-star, which would project him as a high-end second-round pick. Pickens was selected No. 52 overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers, around where his high school ranking slotted him at.

This new rebuttal, confidence, and constant approach from Smart and company have put them in a strong position for several major difference makers. Quarterback Dylan Raiola and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith are the unquestioned top players at their position in 2024; Georgia is in the top three for both.

Quarterback George MacIntyre is their latest offer at the position. MacIntyre is a Brentwood, Tennessee, native who has blown up the past few months. He's logged 20 offers this calendar year alone, including Georgia, Miami, Penn State, Colorado, and Alabama.

Tennessee is the presumed favorite for MacIntyre. He's been on Rocky Top numerous times and has a strong relationship with offensive coordinator Joey Halzle. MacIntyre is an early top-three signal caller in the 2025 class; while there's still plenty of time to collect information about other quarterbacks, he seems like a top prospect.

Even if Georgia wanted MacIntyre in 2025, they might be unable to beat out other programs. Nonetheless, the offer is interesting on several levels. Georgia has been dead set on recruiting the quarterback position over the past few months; they are constantly pursuing Raiola and scouted some Peach State quarterbacks in the open period.

As one source put it to Volunteer Country, Smart is impulsive, which plays in his favor and against him. Each big decision he's made at the helm has paid off, but some decisions have an inherent risk factor. For one, it could ultimately create a quarterback battle for Tennessee and Georgia if UGA is serious about MacIntyre; if he chose the Vols, it would create a precedent for top quarterbacks to pick Tennessee over Georgia, a trend Smart doesn't want to begin.
