In this story:

The Tennessee Volunteers frequent Lipscomb Academy during the offseason. They landed three-star wide receiver Nate Spillman in 2023, have four-star corner Kaleb Beasley committed in 2024, and are strongly interested in several other prospects. One of those targets is four-star linebacker Edwin Spillman, a long-time Tennessee interest that has made a name for himself on the national circuit.

Spillman logged 129 tackles and two interceptions for the No. 19 squad in the country. Lipscomb went 13-0, winning the Tennessee Division II State Championship over multiple other top schools. Spillman was a commanding part of that defense, playing inside linebacker and assuming many college responsibilities. Major programs recognized his abilities and college ready-nature, and a top four broke out earlier this summer: Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

Tennessee has been recruiting him for years, and they have been the presumed favorite from start to finish. Fans have been hearing about Spillman for years, and they now get to find out where he will play his college football. He will announce his decision on July 21 and choose between Ohio State and Tennessee.

The Buckeyes have surged for Spillman in recent months. The coaching staff got him out to Columbus on the weekend of June 9, and all accounts were that it was a productive visit. It still feels like the Vols are in command in this recruitment, though we shouldn't write Spillman off to Knoxville. He wants to make a decision independent of his older brother and teammates, but all signs point back to that place being Tennessee.
