Weekend rotations in college baseball are headlined by your Friday night starters. Your best arm will always start the weekend, hoping to set the tone for the rest of the series.

Doing so for the Texas Longhorns this season, Lucas Gordon was nearly untouchable when he toed the rubber. Leading the best pitching staff in the Big 12, the Texas lefty helped bring home a share of the regular season conference title - the 10th Big 12 title in program history.

Handing the ball to Gordon almost always resulted in a series opening win for Texas. He finished his season with a 6-1 record in 14 starts, recording a conference-leading 2.48 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 83.1 innings of work.

HIs dominance on the mound not only helped the Longhorns win a conference title, but earned Gordon Big 12 Pitcher of the Year honors.

Gordon becomes the second Longhorn in the last three years to be receive the honors, joining Ty Madden who won in 2021, and is now the eighth pitcher in school history to bring home the illustrious award.

Now he hopes to carry his success over into the postseason, with the Longhorns starting Big 12 Tournament play on Wednesday. If he maintains his form heading into the NCAA Tournament, then Texas has a strong chance at making yet another Omaha run.
