Longhorns' Max Belyeu Named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week

The start of the 2024 season was certainly not kind to right fielder Max Belyeu. Struggling mightily at the plate, he failed to register a single hit in the first four games for the No. 23 Texas Longhorns. Then, a light switch flipped on and he has caught fire over the last 11 games.

His red-hot streak at the plate reached another level, however, in the Longhorns' first conference series of the season against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock. Dialed in at the plate, he proceeded to evolve from just red-hot to nuclear.

Feasting on a shaky Texas Tech pitching staff, Belyeu was an impossible out during all three games. He recorded seven hits in the series, including a home run in every single game, drove in seven runs ands scored six times himself.

Coming up clutch in the rubber match to secure the marquee series win, the outfielder delivered his best performance of the weekend with a 4-for-5 showing at the plate with his third home run, a pair of doubles and three RBIs to win a Big 12 weekly award.

Recognized for his offensive prowess, he was named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week alongside Oklahoma's

Easton Carmichael. It is the first weekly honor of his career and third for the Longhorns this season, joining Lebarron Johnson Jr. and Peyton Powell.

Belyeu getting hot coming into conference play and finding his rhythm bodes well for a Texas team trying to find its footing during the early portions of the season. If he can keep it up as the schedule unfolds, it'll go a long way for the Longhorns to be a dangerous squad rolling into the NCAA Tournament.
