OFFICIAL: 5-Star S Xavier Filsaime Signs With Texas Longhorns

In this story:
AUSTIN, Texas -- It's been a hectic past few days for 2024 five-star McKinney (Texas) safety Xavier Filsaime.
But after they successfully flipped him from the Florida Gators, the Texas Longhorns have now officially signed Filsaime as part of a talented 2024 recruiting class.
Filsaime had been committed to Florida since April, but made an official visit to Austin on Friday before committing to Texas on Monday. He admitted it was one of the "hardest decisions ever."
“Knowing my future would be stable and the opportunities outside of football," Filsaime told On3. "Probably one of my hardest decisions ever because I have lots of love fo r everyone over there.”
Per 247Sports' rankings, Filsaime ranks as the No. 2 safety in the country, the No. 33 player nationally, and the No. 7 player in the state of Texas. He had received offers from elite programs like Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon and many more.
Filsaime posted 76 tackles, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one pass breakup during the 2022 season.

The Longhorns face questions in the secondary headed into next season due to the loss of players to the transfer portal and eligibility. Texas has lost safeties B.J. Allen, Larry Turner Gooden, and Jalen Catalon to the transfer portal, and could lose both Kitan Crawford and Jerrin Thompson to graduation/the NFL Draft.
Texas will likely have a young secondary next season, and Filsaime could play a big role considering his talent is among the very best in the country in this 2024 class.
