OFFICIAL: Five-Star Edge Colin Simmons Signs With Texas

The Texas Longhorns have just landed arguably their top pass rushing commitment since Sergio Kindle

Five-star Duncanville (TX) edge Colin Simmons might have been the most hotly pursued pass rusher in the entire 2024 class.

And now, he is a Texas Longhorn, signing with Steve Sarkisian on Wednesday during the early signing period.

“[Coach Sark is] definitely top-two head coaches that I’ve ever met, not only high school but just that I’ve ever met,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons this spring. “I love everything about him, his personality, everything. He’s outgoing, he’s outstanding."

Simmons is now officially the lead horse in a recruiting class that features an abundance of talent, including the likes of five stars Ryan Wingo and Brandon Baker, and four-star standouts Kobe Black, Jerrick Gibson, and Wardell Mack.

He currently ranks as the highest-rated edge commit for Texas since Sergio Kindle (2006) and Jackson Jeffcoat (2010).

"I’m from Texas, it’s the home state team," Simmons told On3 of the Longhorns. "Austin is an upcoming city and there’s a lot of potential I see out there. I feel like Austin, Texas is going to be — and not just UT itself — up in the next couple of years. Their pitch is honestly just that they need me and want me real bad, especially at my position.”

This past season, Simmons led Duncanville to yet another state title, earning MVP honors in the championship game with eight tackles, three sacks, three tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.

In his sophomore and junior seasons with Duncanville, Simmons was an unstoppable force off of the edge, tallying 147 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 34.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles in those two years.

Simmons currently holds 43 offers in total, and ranks as a 5-star plus recruit, the No. 3 player in Texas, the No. 2 player at his position in the country, and the No. 9 overall player nationally, per On3.
