Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian's New Contract Details Revealed
The 2023 season for the Texas Longhorns was the best the program has had in quite some time, as they not only won the Big 12 but also made a College Football Playoff appearance.
The catalyst of this success is none other than head coach Steve Sarkisian, who is now in his third year as the head coach. The former Alabama offensive coordinator revamped the program's offense, roster, and most importantly its culture.
As a result of that success, Sarkisian was awarded a new contract extension that is set to keep him in Austin through 2030.
Now, the details of that contact have been revealed, thanks to the agenda for the February 21-22 University of Texas Board of Regents meeting.
As it stands, Sarkisian is set to earn Sarkisian is set to earn $10.3 million in 2024, with his salary increasing by $100,000 every year until 2030, when he will earn $10.9 million.
For context, last season Sarkisian was reportedly making $5.6 million which had him making less than coaches such as Kansas' Lance Leipold, Pitt's Pat Narduzzi, UCLA's Chip Kelly, and Minnesota's P.J. Fleck.
More notably, Sarkisian was being paid less than fellow SEC coaches such as South Carolina's Shane Beamer, Eliah Drinkwitz AT Missouri, and Sam Pittman at Arkansas.
Now, however, that is no longer the case, with Sarkisian finding himself in the top five highest-paid coaches in the industry, alongside the recently retired Nick Saban, Clemson's Dabo Swinney, and Georgia's Kirby Smart, and Ryan Day at Ohio State.
However, that isn't the end of the perks for Sarkisian.
It was also revealed that he was given two new cars, 20 hours of personal private airplane use, a one-time special payment of $300,000, a club membership, and various ticket allotments.
Sarkisian will also earn performance incentives adding up to a maximum of $1.85 million annually, including $1.25 million should the Longhorns make it to and win the national title, and $300,000 if the team wins an SEC title.
In other words, after performing like one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, he is being paid like it.
