Texas Longhorns Ex Earl Thomas Victim in Identity Theft Scheme

Former Texas Longhorns star safety Earl Thomas has his name involved in legal trouble once again.

According to the New York Post and first reported by Nola.com, Thomas is the victim in an identity theft scheme that was started by the boyfriend of Thomas' ex-wife, Nina Thomas.

Kevin J. Thompson allegedly stole up to $1.9 million from Thomas by using the former first-round pick's identity to cash NFL checks and steal from his bank account, along with other things.

Thompson is facing charges of “including identity theft, forgery, money laundering, credit card fraud, computer fraud and bank fraud," per Nola.com. His bond is reportedly set at $730,000.

This is just another chapter in a series of events between Thomas and his ex-wife since he last played in the NFL in 2020 for the Baltimore Ravens.

Thomas and his ex-wife filed for divorce in 2020. In May of that year, Nina was arrested after reportedly holding Earl at gunpoint after finding he and his brother in bed with other women.

Thomas was then arrested in May 2022 after he sent threatening messages to a different woman regarding her and her children. Just a few months later in Aug. 2022, Thomas' house in Orange, Texas burned down after a lightning strike.

In just two seasons at Texas, Thomas posted 134 total tackles, five forced fumbles, 10 interceptions and two touchdowns. He also returned eight punts for 58 yards, almost all of which came on a 50-yard return during the 2009 season.

While helping lead the Longhorns to an appearance in the 2009 national title game, Thomas was named a first-team All-American, an All-Big 12 First Team pick and was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He would go on to be the No. 14 overall pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2010 NFL Draft.

As a pro, Thomas found most of his success with the Seahawks. He was one of the faces of the historical "Legion of Boom" Seattle defense that helped win the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl in the 2013 season. Thomas played nine seasons with Seattle and one with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. He remains a free agent.

In his NFL career, Thomas has played 140 games while tallying 713 total tackles, two sacks, 11 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 30 interceptions, and two touchdowns.
