Texas Linebacker Anthony Hill Earns Freshman All-American Honors from FWAA

Texas Longhorns Linebacker Anthony Hill was named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America on Tuesday.

Texas Longhorns Linebacker Anthony Hill was named Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America after his stellar season for the No. 3 ranked team.

The 6-foot-3, 234-pounder from Denton, Texas recorded 67 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in his inaugural season. Participating in all 14 games. Initially, Hill played as an understudy to David Gbenda at WILL linebacker but quickly became a critical player on the defense.

As he became more confident in the defensive role, Hill served as a key figure on the defense starting in six games for the Longhorns.

The Week 2 Alabama win separated Hill from the pack where he recorded two of his five sacks against quarterback Jalen Milroe. One of those sacked marked Alabama's final offensive play of the game.

Hill's spot on the FWAA freshman All-American team continues the trend of Longhorns making a mark among the nation's top freshmen for three consecutive seasons. In 2022, left tackle Kelvin Banks secured the recognition, following the 2021 selection of wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Hill now joins a distinguished group of 16 players in the school's history to earn this accolade.

Rubbing shoulders with legends like Malik Jefferson, Earl Thomas, Colt McCoy, Brian Orakpo, Frank Okam, Rod Wright, and Derrick Johnson.

After his first season with the Longhorns, Hill has received other honors including freshman All-American from ESPN and The Athletic. As well as a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, and shared Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year accolades.
