Texas Longhorns Not Forgetting Last Year's Loss to TCU Horned Frogs: 'We Remember It'

Texas Longhorns receiver Xavier Worthy didn't hesitate to admit that the team still thinks about last season's loss to the TCU Horned Frogs.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The stakes and the setting have flipped for this season's meeting between the Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs. No. 7 Texas (8-1) will visit TCU (4-5) at Amon G. Carter on Saturday, but this time it's the Longhorns who will be holding onto College Football Playoff hopes.

Last season, No. 4 TCU came into Austin and stifled No. 18 Texas in 17-10 win. The Horned Frogs would go on to make the College Football Playoff and play in the National Championship before being blown out by Georgia.

Considering how big that TCU game was and the huge implications of the meeting this time around, Texas receiver Xavier Worthy didn't hesitate to admit that the loss last season is still sitting in the back of the team's mind.

"It was tough," Worthy said Monday. "We still had hopes in front of us and I feel like we knew what was at stake that game. Us losing that game, I feel like it put a thought in our head. I feel like we still remember that. It's something that's sitting in the back of our head. We remember it."

Texas Christian Horned Frogs linebacker Shadrach Banks (19) and safety Namdi Obiazor (4) break up a pass intended for Texas Longhorns tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (0) during the second half at DKR.

That loss meant Texas no longer had full control of its 2022 Big 12 title berth hopes. The Longhorns would win their final two games of the regular season, but a Kansas State win over Kansas in the final week of the season instead secured the Wildcats a berth in the conference title game against TCU.

Of course, the final score was likely not indicative of how poor the Longhorns played that night in Austin. The Texas offense failed to reach the end zone while posting just 199 total yards and going 1 of 13 on third down.

The Longhorns got a miracle 48-yard fumble return for a touchdown from defensive back Jahdae Barron with 4:25 to play to make it a one-possession game, but TCU got the ball back and ran out the remainder of the clock to win the game

Worthy had four catches for 32 yards in that game, as just three Texas pass-catchers registered a grab. He and the offense will be looking for a major bounce-back on Saturday in Fort Worth when Texas and TCU kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT.
