2024 QB Commit Trey Owens 'Really Excited' to Join Longhorns

After becoming the first in-state quarterback commit under Steve Sarkisian, Trey Owens is excited for what his future holds.

As the Texas Longhorns enter their third season under Steve Sarkisian, they do so on the heels of their second straight elite recruiting class in the 2023 cycle.

After back-to-back highly regarded recruiting classes, the Longhorns are turning their attention to taking another step forward - and improving on their 8-5 showing last year.

However, while they do that they are still hard at work on the recruiting trail for the 2024 cycle. So far, the Longhorns have two commits in 2024 in ATH Hunter Moddon and quarterback Trey Owens.

Owens, a three-star recruit out of Cy-Fair (Cypress, TX), detailed what led him to commit to Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

"I felt like it gave me the best opportunity to go on to the next level," Owens said. "Also as a student, it's probably one of the best colleges that fit my assets I'd say. I feel like as big of a stage as it's on, the biggest in the United States honestly."

"You don't get to play Alabama, Texas A&M and Oklahoma every year everywhere else, it's just one place gets to do that."

The Cy-Fair product put together an impressive junior season, throwing for 2,057 yards and 34 touchdowns with just six interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes - which landed him Texas District 17-6A offensive MVP.

With Owens committing to Sarkisian and Texas, he became the first quarterback from the state of Texas to do so under Sarkisian, which he takes pride in.

"It's pretty cool knowing that out of every high school in Texas, I'm the only one," Owens said. "I'm really excited to get up there, I'll be up there multiple times this spring. I'm really looking forward to it."

Sarkisian has had no trouble recruiting the quarterback position at Texas, with Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning leading the way on that front.

However, if Owens ultimately signs with Texas come either early national signing day or national signing day, it will be yet another feather in the cap for Sarkisian - who many consider to be a quarterback whisperer.
