Longhorns Star DT T'Vondre Sweat Declares for 2024 NFL Draft

Texas Longhorns star defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat has officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

After the Texas Longhorns fell 37-31 to the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff at the Sugar Bowl on Monday, the expectation was that it was the last game of T'Vondre Sweat's college career.

The Outland Trophy winner didn't officially declare for the 2024 NFL Draft after the game but did hint that was his plan. Then, on Friday, it became official, with Sweat making his intentions clear that he intends to enter the NFL Draft.

"Dear Longhorn Nation, I want to thank you all for being there for me since day 1, through the ups & downs you all believed in me," Sweat tweeted. "I also want to thank Coach Bo for developing & mentoring me. I’m excited to be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft!"

After the game on Monday, Sweat reflected on his impressive, award-winning season that saw him rise up to become one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the nation.

“I can’t just be more thankful for the opportunity I had this year to be great, and like I said, I give it to my teammates because without those guys I wouldn’t even be here in this situation," he said.

Sweat, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, posted 42 total tackles, two sacks and five passes defended during the regular season. He also caught a two-yard touchdown in Texas' 49-21 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship.

In his five-year career at Texas, Sweat tallied 127 total tackles, five sacks, 15 passes defended and one forced fumble. He'll likely be one of the top defensive linemen selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
