No. 7 Texas Longhorns vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders: How to Watch, Betting Odds

The Longhorns host the Red Raiders on Saturday with an opportunity to clinch a trip to the Big 12 title game in their final season in the conference. A loss doesn't eliminate Texas from conference title hopes, but it would require a complicated tiebreaker and potentially an extra day of waiting for the Longhorns.

“Our players didn't choose to leave the Big 12. ... They're just choosing to put on the burnt orange and white,” Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said. “So whether the commissioner's rooting against our players to win or not, or we're in the SEC or we're in the Big 12, at the end of the day, our guys just want to play good football, and they want to win. ... We need to be enamored with us, and that's something that we've done.”

Since the Longhorns lost to the Sooners at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, they've rattled off five wins in a row over Houston, BYU, Kansas State, TCU and Iowa State. That has put Texas squarely in the middle of the College Football Playoff discussion with just one loss. But to stay there, the Horns must handle up on Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders, then win the Big 12 title game.

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark will be on hand in Austin for Texas' last regular season game as a member of the conference they helped kick off back in 1994.

“Hopefully we put on a heck of a show for him,” Horns coach Steve Sarkisian said. “He’s the commissioner of our conference, and I’m hopeful that when he watches us play, he’s proud of the way that we play in representing the Big 12 because that’s the conference we’re in right now.”

It could be the last matchup between Texas and Texas Tech - who have met at least once per season since 1960 - and have no more games scheduled beyond Friday.

“You’re losing some really good instate rival games through all this movement,” McGuire said. “I’m hopeful at some point that you could bring those games back.”
