For the first time ever and in the final year of the current four-team format, the Texas Longhorns have made the College Football Playoff, and the nearly month-long wait is over.

No. 3 Texas (12-1) will take on the No. 2 Washington Huskies (13-0) at the Sugar Bowl on Monday night in the CFP semifinals with a trip to the National Championship in Houston on the line.

The Longhorns enter as Big 12 champs after throttling Oklahoma State while Washington completed its first-ever 13-win season with a win in the PAC-12 title game over Oregon.

The two teams will provide a rematch of last year’s Alamo Bowl, though there’s obviously much higher stakes this time around. Washington won that game in San Antonio, 27-20.

With the recent history between the two sides, there’s been some subtle back-and-forth jabs from both sides leading up to Monday.

Washington star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. had some interesting comments about Texas’ defensive line.

'We'll Be Good': Michael Penix Jr. Takes Another Shot At Texas

"I’m not going to lie, their D-line is good. But at the same time, they haven’t played our o-line," Penix said. "They play good ball, but I wouldn't say we're playing the 49ers' D-line or the Eagles' D-line, so we'll be good."

Texas defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat responded.

"It's just another O-line to me," Sweat said Thursday. "They're a great group of guys. And they're here to win, just like we're here to win. I mean, like I said, everybody will see Monday at 7:45."
