Quinn Ewers Goes Top 10, Three Longhorns Picked in Way-Too-Early Mock Draft

With the 2024 draft still a year away, these three Longhorns are looking to play their way into a first-round pick next year.

While the 2023 NFL draft isn't even a week old yet we have already started to see way-too-early mock drafts for the 2024 draft. Even if said mocks end up being way off in their predictions they can serve as a measuring stick for who could be first-round picks this time next year.

For the Texas Longhorns, they just had their first player drafted in the first round since 2015 with running back Bijan Robinson going No. 8 overall to the Atlanta Falcons. However, they could be in store for an even better first-round showing in 2024.

In USA Today's way-too-early mock draft the Longhorns have three players drafted, with quarterback Quinn Ewers leading the way as he is taken No. 6 overall by the Washington Commanders.

The talent is certainly there for Ewers, however, it is just a question of he can put it all together as a sophomore for the Longhorns. His freshman season saw him show flashes of an elite quarterback, throwing for 2,177 yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing only 58.1 percent of his passes.

If he can continue the strides of progress he's shown this spring, though, into the season then this could be Ewers' draft landing spot. Joining Ewers in the first round of this mock are two of his favorite targets in receiver Xavier Worthy and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders - with Worthy going No. 18 overall to the Denver Broncos and Sanders going No. 32 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs.

After recording 1,741 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on 122 receptions in his first two seasons at Texas, Worthy has become one of college football's best returning receivers and is primed for another dominant showing this season.

As for Sanders, he broke out in a big way last season after showing immediate chemistry with Ewers. Sanders recorded 54 receptions for 613 yards and five touchdowns, with his 54 receptions and five touchdowns second to only Worthy.

All three of Ewers, Worthy and Sanders undoubtedly have the talent to go in the first round. The question this season, though, will be if they're able to play their way into the first round as the Longhorns chase a conference title.
