Texas Picked to Finish Third in Big 12 Preseason Media Poll

The Texas Longhorns were picked to finish third in the Big 12 preseason poll.
The Longhorns, who are coming off an 8-5 campaign, were picked to finish behind Bedlam rivals Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Two years after finishing the season as the Big 12's runner up, the Longhorns are hoping to capture their first conference title since Mack Brown and Colt McCoy led the team to the conference crown back in 2009.
The Longhorns have plenty of weapons at their disposal in the battle to win the league with 16 starters returning from last year's team. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger enters the year as the career active leader among FBS quarterbacks in most categories.
Texas added seven new assistants to the staff in the offseason including offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, who is fresh off mentoring Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields to a Heisman runner up season. Defensive coordinator Chris Ash (fresh off a run as the Rutgers head coach) previously paired with current Texas head coach Tom Herman to win a National Championship as assistants in 2014 at Ohio State.
Oklahoma is favored to win what would be the program's sixth-straight Big 12 Championship. Oklahoma State is picked to finish second, which would mean the Cowboys' first-ever trip to the Big 12 title game. Iowa State, Baylor, TCU, Kansas State, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Kansas round out the top 10.
