Report: Two SEC Rivals Targeting Ex Texas Longhorns Assistant Brennan Marion As Offensive Coordinator Candidate

Could the Texas Longhorns be forced to face former wide receivers coach Brennan Marion in the SEC next season?

Could former Texas Longhorns wide receiver coach and industry rising star Brennan Marion be on his way to coaching an arch-rival?

According to reports from Jacob Davis of AllHogs, Marion is on the shortlist for a myriad of jobs around the country, including openings as a head coach and as an offensive coordinator.

But two jobs on that list that should stick out to Longhorns fans are that of the Arkansas Razorbacks and Oklahoma Sooners, both of which are reportedly targeting Marion to be their new offensive coordinator.

Marion had recently interviewed for the head coaching job at San Deigo State and is considered a finalist for that position.

Marion was with the Longhorns for two seasons under head coach Steve Sarkisian, becoming one of the most sought-after up-and-coming coaches in the country in that time.

As a result, it wasn't long after that before UNLV and head coach Barry Odom came calling, naming Marion as the team's offensive coordinator.

At UNLV, Marion has excelled in a big way, thanks to the implementation of his unique GoGo offense, which has helped guide the Rebels to a 9-2 record (one of just three winning records for the program since 2000) and the No. 1 spot in the Mountain West Conference.

Not only that, but Marion has crafted one of the best offenses in college football, with the Rebels ranking No. 19 in the nation (No. 1 in the Mountain West) in scoring offense, No. 24 in rushing offense, in No. 40 in total offense.

Before coming to the Longhorns from the Pittsburgh Panthers, Marion was already one of the top wide receivers coaches in the country and a fast riser in the industry.

Marion came to the Panthers in 2021 after a stop at Hawaii, helping the Panthers improve into one of the best passing offenses in college football.

The Panthers finished 2021 ranking No. 5 in the nation in passing, averaging 350.2 yards per game.

He was also instrumental in former Pittsburgh and now USC wideout Jordan Addison winning the 2021 Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation's top wide receiver.

Addison wrapped up his sophomore campaign with 93 catches for 1,479 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging 113.8 yards per contest, and is now starring for the Minnesota Vikings in his rookie season.
