Longhorns Make Top 5 for 2024 F Donnie Freeman, Decision Date Set

Donnie Freeman officially visited the Forty Acres on Oct. 15, and still remains interested in the Texas Longhorns even with coach Rodney Terry taking over.

The Texas Longhorns have been dealt some crippling blows as far as the 2023 recruiting class is concerned, but things could be looking up for the program in the 2024 cycle.

The Longhorns have made the final five for St. John's High (Washington D.C.) forward Donnie Freeman, he announced Sunday on Twitter. Texas is now in the running with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Syracuse Orange, Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Freeman, who is a 6-8, 190-pound four-star recruit and the No. 1 player in D.C. in 2024 per 247Sports' rankings, will announce his decision on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CT.

“Texas is a school I liked a lot growing up, with their playing style and some players they had that I watched like Kevin Durant and Greg Brown," he told On3. "Now being heavily recruited by them is really cool. I built a strong relationship with the staff so I’m comfortable with them as well as Maryland’s staff.”

Freeman officially visited the Forty Acres on Oct. 15 when Chris Beard was still the head coach of the program. But even with Rodney Terry stepping in, his interest in Texas remains.
