BREAKING: Texas Longhorns Land Commitment From Indiana State Transfer Jayson Kent

The Texas Longhorns have secured their first commitment from the portal this offseason with Indiana State transfer Jayson Kent.

AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns have secured their first addition from the transfer portal after a quiet start to the offseason.

Per reports Sunday from On3's Joe Tipton, the Longhorns have landed a commitment from Indiana State transfer guard/forward Jayson Kent, who brings four years of collegiate experience to Austin.

Kent made his visit to Austin on Saturday. In a picture taken by On Texas Football's C.J. Vogel, Kent and former Indiana State teammate Julian Larry can be seen walking outside Moody Center with
assistant coaches Brandon Chappell and Steve McClain, as both players took their visit together. Texas fans will now be watching if Larry's the next to commit.

Kent averaged 13.5 points and a team-leading 8.1 rebounds this past season, helping lead the Sycamores to a Missouri Valley Conference title game appearance and a second-place finish in the NIT.

His addition comes just a day after 2024 signee Cam Scott was released from his National Letter or Intent on Saturday. This indicated that a move could be coming for Texas, and it didn't take long for coach Rodney Terry and staff to make up for the loss.

The Longhorns have a shell of a roster as of now. Texas has already lost Dylan Disu, Max Abmas, Brock Cunningham and Ithiel Horton to eligibility while reserve pieces Gavin Perryman, Alex Anamekwe and Chris Johnson have all transferred. Dillon Mitchell and Tyrese Hunter have still yet to make an announcement on their decision for next season.

Expect Kent to be just the first of multiple other transfer additions that Texas will likely make over the course of the next few weeks.
