Former Longhorns Signee Ron Holland to Sign With G League Ignite

Former Texas Longhorns 2023 signee Ron Holland will now look to begin his professional career by playing for the G League Ignite.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns missed out on ever getting a chance to feature 2023 five-star forward Ron Holland on the roster. But now, the rest of the country has joined them in harboring that disappointing feeling.

Holland, a former Texas signee who decommitted from the program on April 28, will skip out on college ball altogether and will sign with the G League Ignite, per reports Wednesday from On3.

"This process was not easy," Holland told ESPN. "At times it was scary because at times I had no idea where I would be.

Holland was released from his NLI on May 23 and will now look to further his professional career by playing for Ignite. The experience is aimed to give him an opportunity to receive NBA-level coaching while playing against some of the best young talent the developmental league has to offer.

"The G League will help me reach my potential as a basketball player and prepare me for the NBA," Holland said. "To have a long career, I need to prepare my body and improve my skills as I continue to try to win games. They have a program to help develop my body and my game."

He became the second five-star signee to decommit from Texas this offseason after 2023 guard A.J. Johnson announced on April 13 that he'd be pursuing a professional career in Australia with the NBL.

At the very least, the Longhorns now don't have to potentially play against Holland at any point next season, which would've been a painful sight for many given how highly-anticipated his arrival to Austin was. The Arkansas Razorbacks were rumored to be heavily involved in the pursuit of Holland, but are left empty-handed after Wednesday's news.

Holland has risen up the ranks to become regarded as the most talented player in the 2023 class. But instead of taking classes and reading expensive textbooks, he has his sights set on the ultimate dream of making it to the NBA.
