AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns just landed a massive 2024 commitment, pun intended.

Just hours after the commitment of wide receiver Parker Livingstone, the Horns snagged another one, this time in Duncanville (TX) defensive tackle, Alex January.

The teammate of top Longhorns target Colin Simmons, the 6-foot-4, 325-pound January picked the Longhorns over Florida State, LSU, Texas Tech and Miami, among others.

January was coming off of a month of official visits in June, in which he visited the Red Raiders, Seminoles and Tigers.

He is also the son of former Longhorns linebacker Mike January, who played on the 40 Acres in the 1980s.

Should he end up signing with the Horns in December, January will be the second massive defensive tackle commitment that the Longhorns have landed in as many years, after 335-pound Sydir Mitchell in the 2023 class.

January is now the ninth commitment since the beginning of June for the Longhorns, joining Livingstone, fellow receiver Freddie Dubose, cornerback Santana Wilson, running backs Christian Clark and Jerrick Gibson, and guards Daniel Cruz and Nate Kibble.

The Longhorns also got a commitment from 2025 quarterback, KJ Lacey.
