Xavier Worthy, Longhorns 'Dialed in' to QB Quinn Ewers

Quinn Ewers has taken a major step forward this offseason, and Xavier Worthy revealed exactly how.

The Texas Longhorns begin their season on Saturday against the Rice Owls in Austin with huge expectations behind them.

One of the biggest reasons for those massive expectations is the improvements made by starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who, by all accounts looks like a totally new player.

And according to Longhorns star wide receiver Xavier Worthy, the biggest change Ewers made was to his leadership qualities.

"Overall, like I said his leadership," Worthy said. "He's become way more vocal. Telling us that oh... I want you to do this, I want you to do that. I just feel like everybody's gonna dial in and listen to him when he does it."

For the Longhorns to be successful, Ewers needs to live up to his talent and expectations.

But the Southlake native has yet to do that on the field thus far.

At times, Ewers looked like the best player on the field last season. While at others, he still looked like a high school senior.

But after what he has seen from Ewers this offseason, Worthy believes Ewers has made the necessary adjustments to take the step forward to becoming a complete quarterback.

"I feel like his mindset, he got more comfortable," Worthy said. "Just talking about the throws and talking about where you want the ball, and as a receiver, I feel like that's easier for us because we have a stable quarterback and somebody that we can work with after practice. So I feel like that was the biggest thing."

Ewers will get his chance to prove just that when the Longhorns take the field against Rice on Saturday at 2:30.
