Ex-Longhorn Quandre Diggs Rips Quinn Ewers for Rice Performance

Former Texas Longhorns defensive back Quandre Diggs was not happy with Quinn Ewers on Saturday

AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns offense looked a bit sluggish in the first half of their 37-10 season-opening win over the Rice Owls on Saturday afternoon.

Particularly, the Longhorns once again struggled to connect on deep passes between Quinn Ewers and Xavier Worthy - an issue that plagued the Longhorns for the vast majority of the 2022 season.

And in frustration, former Texas Longhorns standout and current Seattle Seahawks star defensive back Quandre Diggs ripped Ewers for his lack of accuracy.

"(Worthy) should have 200 yards receiving already if the damn ball was thrown accurate," Diggs Tweeted.

While Diggs may or may not have a point about the accuracy in the passing attack, Ewers's performance was nothing to sneeze at.

In fact, the sophomore gunslinger had a great day on the stat sheet, completing 19-of-30 passes, throwing for 260 yards and three touchdowns through the air while adding a rushing touchdown to his line.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian himself, while obviously frustrated by the missed opportunities, knows the Horns are getting closer in the deep passing game as well.

"We're getting closer," Sarkisian said. It's going to feel good when we do hit them."

Ewers, meanwhile, is not discouraged by his performance.

Rather, he is pleased with the progress he has made. And though he obviously wishes he would have connected on a few of those throws he missed, he is confident that he is putting his pass catchers in the right spots.

"I mean, yeah, I obviously can't complete a ball when it's thrown out of bounds. So that's got to be fixed," Ewers said. "I'm not mad at the throws. I think I gave my receivers chances to go up and get the ball which, that's what has been my focus this past offseason instead of trying to be so perfect, and end up overthrowing those guys. I think it's it's good that I'm just giving those guys a chance."

Ewers will have a chance to show that and prove Diggs wrong next Saturday against Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
