After head coach Will Hall made it clear on Saturday that the starting quarterback would be announced when the roster was revealed on Monday, we finally have our answer, and coach is a man of his word.
Tulane Names Zeon Chriss-Gremillion as Starter
After a long, drawn-out quarterback battle that saw its way from being a two-way battle, to a four-way battle heading into Fall, and then back to a two-way competition as Fall progressed, coach Hall has found his answer for the quarterback spot.
His answer: Zeon Chriss-Gremillion. the Houston transfer is looking to improve upon his previous seasons, and his overall inconsistent, but improved play throughout Fall.
With Zeon as the starter, it wouldn’t be ridiculous to expect the Wave offense to be extremely run-heavy. Zeon is easily one of the best pure athletes on the field, and if he’s the starter, coach Hall and the offense should take full advantage of that athleticism.
Some options and designed quarterback runs will likely play a huge roll in the offense, but we’ll hope that Zeon can get it to his talented weapons: Destyn “Fat” Hill, Anthony Brown-Steven’s, CJ Lewis, and Jaylin Lucas.
As we’ve seen before though, quarterback battles can extend beyond the preseason camps, but that will all depend on how Zeon performs through the first few weeks of the season.
Four-Star Impact
This summer, we went over the historic 2026 freshman class, which included two four-star recruits in right guard Tylan George and defensive tackle Jordyn Crites.
The historic class has lived up to its name, as both have made the roster as the back up right
guard and defensive tackle, as seen above. The defensive line is a deep room swimming in raw, young talent, so the fact that Crites has worked his way up as a true freshman is beyond
impressive.
We’re sure his massive frame at 6’7” and long arms are going to dominate interior lineman, and we think we’ll hear his name often throughout the season.
On the flip side, George has worked his way into a backup guard position, and although he might not see immediate playing time, given a healthy line, we expect George to make his impact as early as next year.
That’s not a diss on his play, it’s more-so the ability of some offensive lineman to play both positions, especially given their experience.
Regardless, whether it’s this season or the next, George will plant his feet firmly in a starting position.
Deep in a Lot of Places
Tulane has the benefit of a massive returning class, and they’ve taken advantage of the portal to add playmakers on both sides of the ball.
Its previously mentioned freshman class, a cluster of transfers, and plenty of returning assets have given the Wave depth in a variety of positions.
Arguably the deepest across both sides are the running back, linebacker, and defensive back room, with plenty of transfers and familiar faces alike.
The running backs return Maurice “Mo” Turner and Jamauri McClure while adding explosive playmakers in Jaylin Lucas (Florida State), Johnnie Daniels (Mississippi State), and DJ Dugar Jr (Oklahoma State). The room is practically a bomb waiting to explode, and coach Hall will be thrilled to take full advantage of it.
Flipping to the defense with the linebackers and secondary, we haven’t dipped in any depth as both rooms could rotate their first and seconds
Chris Rodgers, Dickson Agu, Makai Williams, and South Alabama transfer Dalton Hughes round out an incredible linebacking unit. Chris Rogers seems like a genuine NFL talent, and the added experience of the rest of the room will make them one of the most formidable in the American.
Looking back to the secondary, we see experienced transfers in Macho Stevenson (Texas Tech), Anthony Rogers (Nicholls), and Justin Agu (Louisville) and plenty of returning talent to back them up. E’zaiah Shine, Jack Tchienchou, Kevin Adams and Chase Green top off a fun and experienced room.
