UCLA Football: Bruins Hire New Executive Director Of Recruiting

Chip Kelly is getting some help.

Your UCLA Bruins football program is bring on a fresh executive director of recruiting, per UCLA Communications.

The team is hiring Darren Uscher in that capacity for head coach Chip Kelly. Uscher has previously worked on the player personnel and recruiting side at the University of Oregon, Auburn, Boise State and Georgetown.

"Darren brings valuable experience and perspective to our program that will enhance the foundation and values already in place," Kelly said.

Uscher got his start as the director of operations, assistant recruiting coordinator and video coordinator for Georgetown in 2013, while also earning a master's degree in sports industry management.

He subsequently spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons as the director of football recruiting for the Auburn Tigers. Uscher most recently operated as the player personnel and scouting consultant for the Ducks this past season.

As to his recruiting bona fides, Uscher's 2024 Ducks recruiting class was ranked No. 3 overall by ESPN, and his Auburn classes were each ranked among the top 21 during their respective seasons. His Boise State classes were always ranked No. 1 among the Mountain West conference during his tenure at the program, from 2014-20.

He'll be joining a UCLA program that finished with a disappointing 8-5 record this past season while toggling between multiple quarterbacks. The Bruins are badly in need of some recruiting help. Maybe Uscher's just the man for the job.
