UCLA Football: Chip Kelly Won't Confirm Starting QB After Another Big Ethan Garbers Game

Chip Kelly won't commit to Ethan Garbers.

The battle between the UCLA Bruins and Colorado Buffaloes ended with a final score of 16 for the Buffs and 28 for the Bruins

Ethan Garbers put up a respectable performance that included 20/27 269 yards, 2 TDs, and one INT.

It could be that the Bruins were having a rough time with Deion Sanders' defense which has led to Chip Kelly once again not committing to Garbers moving forward. UCLA didn't score until the second quarter, and a host of turnovers made things seem quite dire at the beginning of the game.

While speaking in a postgame conference to Adam Wagner, Kelly revealed the plan for next week's big game against the Arizona Wildcats:

“Yeah, we analyze everything during the week. And we don’t make anything rash after a game and say, ‘Hey this is what tomorrow is going to be like, or what Wednesday is going to be like.’ Ben’s great at depth charts and questions about depth charts during the week. But we won’t finalize anything until we get to the game day next week. And we play at like midnight, so we have a lot of time all day on Saturday to figure out who our quarterback is going to be.”

It is a bit odd that Kelly is not committing to Garbers, who has done a respectable job in his last two outings. He has totaled 509 passing yards and 4 TDs.

It could be that Kelly is keeping his options open with Dante Moore and Colin Schlee getting playing time as well. The Bruins are currently tied for 4th in the Pac-12, and the hope is they can climb the ranks and play in the championship.

Kelly could use the next two games to determine who should be behind center for the remainder of the season, even if that sounds like a bizarre way to determine a starter.
