UCLA Football: Why Journalist Is Optimistic About Dante Moore's 2023 Future

Plenty of reasons to be excited for him.

Though it wasn't UCLA quarterback Dante Moore's finest showing in a week four loss to Utah there's still plenty of reasons to be hopeful about his future with the Bruins.

The Detroit native displayed some inexperience through the first conference game of his career yet many are expressing their support for the young man and the very bright path ahead of him.

Offensively, 2023 is something of a rebuilding year. The Bruins are being led by an 18-year-old signal caller, the freshman was playing his first Pac-12 game ever and it just so happened to be against the team that most recently won the conference championship. Moore is not the only addition. Transfers fill the spots of UCLA’s new top offensive players, the offensive line is very different from last season and a new defensive coordinator is leading the defense. These pieces take time to all come together. Yes, they pulled off three successful wins in the nonconference slate, but ranked Pac-12 opponents on the road are different. The Saturday loss was not ideal for UCLA’s record or ranking hopes, but it doesn’t mean that Moore won’t be able to find his stride eventually. There are still eight games remaining, and now, the team knows what to expect.

Moore completed just 42.9% of his passes last Saturday against a Utes defense that generated pressure all afternoon long.

Utah compiled seven sacks, caused 20 incomplete passes and turned UCLA over twice, the first coming on the first pass of the game for a pick-six that set the tone all afternoon.

Growing pains happen for every young quarterback and Chip Kelly's newest project is another chapter to that long saga.

Thankfully the Bruins' bye week couldn't have come at a better time where Moore and the rest of the team will hope to bounce back in a major way.
