UCLA Basketball: Sebastian Mack Added as Finalist for FOTY Award

UCLA basketball's Sebastian Mack has been named a finalist for the 2023-2024 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award. Mack is just one of 25 freshmen across NCAA Division 1 basketball to be named a finalist for the award.

Mack put together a stellar freshman year for the Bruins, averaging 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in his first season at UCLA. He had five games in which he scored at least 20 points, including his highest output of the year when he scored 27 points against CSUN. Overall, he finished third on the team in scoring, only behind Adem Bona and Dylan Andrews.

This is another honor for Mack, who was previously named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week twice during the regular season, on Nov. 27 and Dec. 26. After the Pac-12 season concluded, Mack was also one of five freshman in the conference to be named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman-Team. Mack was named to the team alongside Washington State's Myles Rice, Colorado's Cody Williams, USC's Isaiah Collier, and Oregon's Jackson Shelstad.

Despite an overall disappointing season for UCLA in which they missed the March Madness tournament, the Bruins have been well represented in several award and honor categories. Along with what Mack has earned, Bona has been the standout for UCLA. Bona was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 first team, and the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team.
