USC Basketball: Bronny James Unavailable For First Practice With Trojans

The freshman guard continues to recover from his cardiac arrest over the summer.

Incoming USC Trojans men's basketball freshman Bronny James, considered a possible first-round prospect in next year's draft, has been unable to participate in team activities since suffering a cardiac arrest during a Galen Center practice on July 24th.

Per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, James missed out on the Trojans' first official practice of the season. He also was unavailable for USC's international preseason exhibition tour, which took the club to Greece and Croatia.

Head coach Andy Enfield revealed that James is holding up well and able to take his classes, though he wouldn't offer much of an update about his medical health.

"Bronny's doing very well," Enfield said. "But we just can't comment on anything medically. He's going to class and doing extremely well in school, and we're really excited for him."

"He's around when he can be," Enfield noted of James' presence around the club. "And he's getting caught up [with] some schoolwork and doing very well. His grades are excellent right now, and he's being the true student-athlete."

"We anticipate him being a very valuable part of our basketball team," Enfield said. "But that'll be all sorted out. He's the ultimate teammate because he cares about winning, and he has such a personal relationship with all his teammates. When you watch him on the court and you're around them, that's the first thing you notice within five or 10 minutes -- and it's contagious.

"So that's why we'll miss that here until he gets back. But he's certainly a big part of our team."

The 6'3" combo guard, son of Los Angeles Lakers All-Star small forward LeBron James, was a four-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth. Our fingers are crossed that he'll suit up sooner rather than later, health permitting!
