In this story:

Nothing is guaranteed in the NBA and with every season that goes on, every team must improve in some way, shape or form. It's clear that every franchise needs to capitalize on their contention windows and if they do not, they need to focus on acquiring as much young talent as possible and developing them. Stars come and go and it's very tough to stay healthy for multiple seasons at a time while being able to pay the entire roster.

There are few squads in the NBA that know this better than the Chicago Bulls. Just a few years ago, they had put together an excellent core headlined by DeMar DeRozan, Zach Lavine, Nikola Vucevic and Lonzo Ball and were able to solidify themselves as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. However, once Ball went down with injury, their offense slowed down and their play style hasn't been the same seeing that he's still dealing with knee issues.

Former USC Trojans stars DeRozan and Vucevic were having some of their best individual campaigns but in the past three years, the Bulls have failed to make legit runs in the playoffs and it's hard to see exactly which direction the front office is trying to go in right now.

And Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley has named Chicago the most confusing roster in the league right now.

"They could've let free agency break apart this roster, but they inked new deals for Vučević, Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu instead. They even went outside the organization to add Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig. They could've sought out trades for LaVine or DeRozan, but they set a "giant" asking price on the former, per The Athletic's

Fred Katz

, and consider the latter "almost untouchable," per Bulls.com's

Sam Smith

."

"How is this supposed to work? Do they expect LaVine, DeRozan and Vučević to suddenly add new layers to their game? Are they waiting on a leap year from Patrick Williams despite not having any evidence that one is in the works? Are they holding out hopes of a healthy Lonzo Ball, even though he's looking at

missing a second consecutive season

with a knee injury that first sidelined him in January 2021? I'm confused—more confused about Chicago than any other team in this league."

Let's see how they are able to perform this season and hopefully USC's former stars can help change the cause!
