USC Basketball: Expert Confident Returning Trojan Can Be One Of NCAA's Best Defenders This Year

In this story:
Your USC Trojans are entering their final season in the Pac-12 Conference and they are doing so with quite the talent on their roster. We continue to hope that all is well with Bronny James and we know he will continue to have the support of the university no matter what happens.
He was a part of an elite recruiting class for the Trojans that featured Isaiah Collier, Arrinten Page, Brandon Gardner and also DJ Rodman via the transfer portal. However, beyond all of these new faces, USC's coaching staff will be looking towards Boogie Ellis and Kobe Johnson to lead the way once the new season kicks off.
The basketball community has been well-aware of Ellis for quite some time now. He lit up the scene all the way back in high school and before coming to the Trojans, he was part of a stacked Memphis squad.
However, Johnson on the other hand, really started making a name for himself last season after only receiving seven minutes per game in his freshman season. The 6'6 forward was able to stay on the court for a feisty USC squad by making all of the right plays and committing 110 percent to the defensive end.
In fact, college basketball expert Jon Rothstein believes that if everything goes according to plan, Johnson will be the best defensive specialist in his conference.
Your best scorer vs. our best defender.

"Kobe Johnson has the requisites to be the best perimeter defender in the Pac-12," said Rothstein. "And one of the best defenders in all of college basketball."(Via USC Hoops)
Seeing the jump that Johnson made from his freshman to sophomore season along with all of the talent that will now be around him, Rothstein's predictions here could definitely come true.
USC will be elite on the offensive side of things but don't sleep on Johnson leading them to some top defensive ratings as well.
