USC Football: Caleb Williams Overlooked for ESPN's Midseason All-American Honors

The disrespect continues.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams faced several critics for his recent lackluster showing against the Fighting Irish in front of a national audience.

Week 8 marked the end of the Trojans' undefeated season thanks in large part to Williams' three first-half interceptions which he never recovered from.

ESPN writer Chris Low took note of this poor performance and added to the Williams disrespect by omitting him from his midseason All-American team across the NCAA.

QB: Michael Penix Jr., Washington

Penix is currently the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and has already had his big-stage moment in rallying Washington to a thrilling 36-33 win over Oregon on Saturday. Penix, one of the many talented transfer quarterbacks around the country, is No. 1 nationally by a wide margin with 383.5 passing yards per game and has thrown 20 touchdown passes and just three interceptions.

Honorable mention: Jayden Daniels, LSU

Not only is Williams falling out of Heisman race but his recent showing against Notre Dame has many NFL scouts questioning his status atop their draft boards.

Add on Low's omission from this prestigious list and Williams' stock has never seemed lower since becoming USC's starting quarterback.

The superstar talent looked anything but against one of the Trojans' long-time rivals after he took six sacks and turned the ball over countless times.

28 points wound up being the Men of Troy's margin of defeat and several critics including Low have emerged to say Williams isn't as good as people may think.

His next chance to prove those doubters wrong will be against a familiar foe who defeated him twice last season in the Utah Utes.

In a suddenly loaded Pac-12 conference this season, things won't get any easier for Williams and the rest of USC's roster to close 2023.
